Compounding the problems for trials bike owners, spark arrestors are required on California public lands, even for permitted events. Even if it does, this USFS certification process has a significant fee attached to it, and again the volume issue makes this not really feasible.

Any LEO that knows what he is doing would figure this out very quickly, and a second violation would be issued. I do find it disturbing if they actually brought anybody from El Centro for this, as one local LEO should have been able to deal with this. Trials events are pretty small in the scheme of things, and they are all in a pretty small area. So, how many officers were involved, how many tickets were issued and for what? If the opening statement is true, it could be even worse. And unfortunately, they could make a good case for needing LEO presence due to the evidence there are lots of violations going on.

Bill, I can top the "Trials Bust". I also submitted a route that I believed was all county roads in case a permit was not issued. After the BLM gave me the "no comment" for 09, I then went to every county road dept in Nevada to be safe.

The night before the ride started, the same BLM cop showed up and ask me what my route was. I told him that I had submitted the route to the BLM electronically months ago and they would not comment. I told him that the 59th minute of the 11th hour was a little late since roll charts were printed week ago. When we got to the gas station at the first overnight, there were four filthy BLM trucks with at least one cop each.

That was cops and trucks for three days looking for 8 tax payers! I wanted to correct some of my post regarding spark arrestors.

I have read that some don't like them because they clog up faster than the Spanish Fly products, but this is because the FS requires a much tighter weave screen to block small carbon particules than what Spanish Fly uses. The screen can be easily cleaned, either with solvents or by burning the carbon off of it, but it is a chore most would rather not have to deal with. Just as word of the Keyesville incident is spreading on internet forums, you can bet the same kind of networking is probably going on within the relatively small federal and state OHV LEO universe, so don't be surprised to see more trials events scrutinized in the future.

Countdown - why don't you post this on the Chief Ranger answers questions thread and let's see his thoughts. So you're thinking that some cop writing tickets at Dove Springs means a bank robber is getting away in Fresno?

I've never seen the BLM patrol the streets where I live. I always thought they were a specific type of agency You need to be a member in order to leave a comment. Posted November 13, Only an idiot would think cops hassle dirt bikers because it's so much safer than dealing with real criminals.
